Responsibility for the environment and society
Zweirad Einkaufs-Genossenschaft eG (ZEG) has been developing sustainable mobility with bicycles and e-bikes for more than 50 years. However, in times of climate change and environmental destruction, even more active commitment is required. As the largest association of bicycle retailers in Europe, we have a duty to work towards a better world for tomorrow. To this end, we promote recycling projects and are actively expanding environmentally friendly production in Europe.
As part of the ZEG sustainability initiative, this commitment is being expanded step by step together with our dealers, partners, and customers. In this way, we are doing our part to reduce the burden on the environment and conserve resources. To coordinate all activities, an internal environmental management system has been established and an environmental audit and certification by EMAS has been initiated. This will be used to monitor, evaluate, and optimize future measures.
With our state-of-the-art factory in Sankt Ingbert, Saarland, we have sent a clear signal towards more environmentally friendly and sustainable production in Europe. At the same time, ZEG and its 670 specialist retailers have joined the large-scale recycling project of the tire manufacturer Schwalbe. In addition, we have joined the System Innovation for Sustainable Development (S:NE) initiative, which was launched by the Federal Ministry of Research and Development in cooperation with Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. Under the umbrella theme of “material compliance,” proposals for more sustainable and ecological production are being developed.
“As the largest association of bicycle retailers in Europe, we see it as our duty to work with our member companies to promote sustainability in the bicycle industry.”
